Maricopa Med-Start (Phoenix)
Maricopa Med-Start (M ²): This summer program offers academic enrichment and health career exploration to high school students, but with additional activities unique to the Maricopa County, Arizona.
In an existence for 35 years, Med-Start is a five-week summer academic enrichment and health career exploration program for students who are between their junior and senior year of high school.
Med-Start is an academic program where students take a college level course, English 197A, preview college chemistry lab, live on campus, and participate in health career lectures and interactive tours and presentations. This program targets rural area, minority, and economically disadvantaged Arizona students and allows them the opportunity to live in a dorm on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson.
The Med-Start Extended program offers an additional week based on the NAU campus. During this week the students explore the health career education opportunities at NAU, live on campus, take field trips to the Hopi and Navajo Reservations and participate in health /science activities.
