Arizona Maximizing Medical Education Potential (AZ MMEP): is an innovative summer workshop for premedical students to improve academic skills in the critical early stage of their premedical curriculum. This specially tailored workshop utilizes a combination of independent, e-mail and web-based assignments. Click here for further details. Arizona Applicant Academy: The purpose of the academy is to provide a three-day weekend intensive workshop for premedical students who are"first-time" applicants or "re-applicants" to medical school for Fall 2007. The workshop will be held on The University of Arizona campus. The academy will address common issues encountered by students in the application process. The academy will assist students with developing a personal statement, MCAT preparation tips, interview strategies and the overall UA College of Med cine admission process. Click here for further details. Med-Start: Med-Start is a six-week academic enrichment program for any Arizona high school student interested in a health career. Two sites are available one at The University of Arizona in Tucson and the other at Arizona State University in Phoenix (Maricopa Med-Start). Students participate in the program during the summer between their junior and senior years. Med-Start was created over 35 years ago to help improve healthcare in rural, reservation, and economically disadvantaged areas through the recruitment and training of students from these regions. Various partners support student participation in Med-Start, including the Indians Into Medicine (INMED) Program, Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, the Arizona Area Health Education Centers (AHECs), Northern Arizona University School of Health Professions, Arizona Hispanic Center of Excellence (AHCOE), and the Department of Health & Human Services, Health Resources & Services Administration, Bureau of Health Professions. Fostering & Achieving Cultural Equity and Sensitivity (F.A.C.E.S.): - The F.A.C.E.S. Internship is an undergraduate course for students that are enrolled at either The University of Arizona or Pima Community College. The internship provides pre-health undergraduate students with valuable clinical experience, allows students to explore their career options, provides exposure to various cultural aspects in the health care system, and targets students who are interested in all allied health professions. The F.A.C.E.S. Conversantes is an undergraduate course for bilingual Spanish–speaking students interested in volunteering as medical interpreters in local clinics. Students become familiar with medical interpretation techniques and medical terminology in Spanish. Volunteer experiences allow students to explore career options, become familiar with the role and responsibilities of a variety of health professions, and develop relationships with local professionals and medical students.
