Short Term Actions/Accomplishments

  • Improve transparency with one-time scholarship evaluation
  1. Demonstrate the extensive methods taken to uphold all nondiscriminatory and nonbiased methods provided with the institutional methodology in assessing students for need-based and merit awards.
  • Enhance active donor engagement and participation to expand scholarship funding to meet the financial-need of all medical and Pre-Medical Admissions Pathway Program (P-MAP) students.
  • Provide a supplemental opportunity for students to be reviewed for scholarships whose financial circumstances have changed since their admission into COM-T to instill confidence with the award process and allowing medical students to have more agency over their scholarship opportunities.
  • Capitalize on other available institutional and outside funds along with non-monetary resources that medical students are eligible for by creating a repository in a widely communicated and centralized location.
  • Research and confirm direct funding and other non-traditional resources for students entering bridge programs or graduate programs offered through the COM-T (i.e. PMAP, CMM) to equalize the financial burden as an entering medical student.
  • Add a student member to the scholarship subcommittee to gain additional perspective
  • Review internally the criteria that determines the financial need score for tuition set aside scholarships
  • Compile all external and internal resources currently readily available by expense categories to develop template that illustrates funding sources, appropriations and other key data sets
  • All Development Officers can use the Scholarship Campaign as a conversation starter to further engage our prospects and donors; request donors to add COM T Scholarship Fund in their estate plan
  • Prepare one-page policy and procedure for scholarship evaluation and selection that includes rubric and methodology
  • Follow-up with Grad College liaison on funding sources for supplemental educational activities and establish partnerships with any applicable student clubs and/or affinity groups
  • Reach out to previous students in the CMM/PMAP program on how they managed to pay for schooling. If some students managed to use scholarships that are still available to students now, then begin to collect the names of scholarships
