The College of Medicine Office of Diversity and Inclusion has received two grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration:
Arizona Center of Excellence (AZ-COE)
The Arizona-Center of Excellence (AZ-COE) will serve as an innovative resource and education center to recruit, educate, and retain URM, Latino/Hispanic, and American Indian/Alaska Native students and faculty at The University of Arizona College of Medicine (UA-COM). The AZCOE is built upon the foundation of the Arizona Hispanic Center of Excellence.
Arizona Health Opportunities Pathways to Excellence (AZ-HOPE)
AZ-HOPE (Arizona Health Opportunities Pathways to Excellence) is a statewide comprehensive effort funded through the Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP).
AZ-HOPE’s overarching goal is to develop a more competitive applicant pool by incorporating, leveraging and building on existing educational modalities to stimulate and support students from middle school through health professional degree attainment through innovative approaches that incorporate service learning, mentoring, health professions academies and health career clubs, along with electronic communication platforms for educational content delivery and social networking to augment the traditional classroom experience and nurture virtual communities.
The AZ-HOPE Comprehensive Partnership integrates service activities and resources from three Arizona Area Health Education Centers (SEAHEC, NAHEC, WAHEC), the Inter-Tribal Council of Arizona (ITCA), and the Sunnyside Unified School District (SUSD).
