Zhao Chen, PhD, MPH
Distinguished Professor and Department Chair, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, UA Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health
Dr. Chen is a funded researcher by the National Health Institute (NIH), and has served on numerous scientific study sections for the NIH and other funding agencies nationally and internationally. The Healthy Aging Lab under her direction has been focusing on epidemiological and translational research of women's health and aging-related health conditions. Dr. Chen has made significant contributions to the study of body composition assessments, breast cancer risk factors, fracture risk in cancer survivors, osteoporosis prevention and detection, epidemiology of anemia, and biomarkers and genetic variations contributing to chronic conditions including sarcopenia among women and the elderly from diverse ethnic backgrounds. She is affiliated with Arizona Center on Aging, Arizona Arthritis Center, Bio5 Institute, Arizona Cancer Center and the School of Anthropology. Dr. Chen chairs the University of Arizona Clinical and Translational Research Graduate Certificate program and directs the Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona, which is part of the UA Global.
