Why did you choose your specific health professional career?

I knew from the time that I was 4 or 5 that I wanted to be a nurse. My mother was attending nursing school and I knew that I would too.

The Pre-Medical Admissions Pathway (P-MAP) Program is a new initiative at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson (COM-T) designed to help students who have experienced unique or greater than average challenges in preparing to become competitive medical school applicants, and ultimately succeed in medical school. P-MAP students will be admitted to COM-T after successful completion of the program.


Minority Physician Recruitment Program

The Minority Physician Recruitment Program at Boston Medical Center affiliate teaching hospital of Boston University School of Medicine is now accepting applications for the Visiting Student Subsidized Elective. The Visiting Student Subsidized Elective allows qualified 4th year medical students that are considering applying to one of Boston University Medical Center’s residency programs the opportunity to get hands-on experience and exposure to our clinical services and diverse patient population during a month long elective.

Why did you choose your specific health professional career? I chose a career in medicine for two reasons. One because a doctor I met stated that Native Americans would be more open to and comfortable with healthcare from a Native American physician, and I thought, “How true.” Second, because I was interested in the human body and all that it does. I was aware that there were many areas in the healthcare field but saw medicine as a place to make a huge difference in the way that healthcare is delivered to our people.
