TUCSON, Ariz. – Undergraduate students in the Border Latino and American Indian Summer Exposure to Research (BLAISER) program will give five-minute presentations about their summer research experiences during the program’s closing ceremony, Tuesday, Aug. 7, 7:30 to 10 a.m., in Roy P. Drachman Hall, Room A114, 1295 N. Martin Ave., Tucson. Presentations start at 8 a.m.

BLAISER is an annual summer program created by the University of Arizona Health Sciences Office of Diversity and Inclusion to address health disparities in Arizona’s ethnically diverse and fast-growing communities. The program is designed to help underrepresented students, including Latino, Native American and African American undergraduate juniors and seniors, become nationally competitive medical school, health professions and biosciences-focused graduate school applicants.

The 10-week paid undergraduate research experience provides an extraordinary laboratory training opportunity, pairing the junior and senior level student-scholars with preeminent UA Health Sciences researchers.

The program is directed by Jorge Gomez, MD, PhD, UA Health Sciences assistant vice president for translational research in special populations and associate director of the UAHS Center for Border Health Disparities, and is supported in part by the Arizona Area Health Education Centers.
