Mission Statement
The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson Housestaff Diversity Advisory Committee (HDAC) is committed to promoting and celebrating diversity and inclusivity across all affiliated residency and fellowship programs. Through close collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, we are striving to achieve the following objectives:
- Enhance Representation: Bolstering the recruitment and retention of medical students, residents, fellows, and faculty from underrepresented backgrounds in medicine. By fostering an environment that values diverse perspectives, we are contributing to the richness of our institution.
- Raise Awareness: We recognize that health disparities persist both nationally and locally, so our committee will focus on raising awareness for these disparities, ensuring that our community remains informed and empowered to address them effectively, allowing room to apply this on a larger scale.
- Optimize Care: We believe that optimal patient care is rooted in cultural humility and responsiveness. By understanding the unique needs of diverse patient populations, we are contributing to equitable healthcare delivery.
- Collective Voices: As trainees, our collective voices are essential in shaping a welcoming, inclusive, and progressive educational environment—one where every individual feels valued and respected.
By working together, we can and will pave the way for a more equitable and compassionate future in medicine.
